Safety You Can See: How Pet Paradise Keeps Day Camp Guests Safe

In Paradise, we take playtime seriously, but when it comes to safety, we don’t play around. With more than 20 years of experience, our goal is to make sure every dog has a safe, tail-wagging day of fun. That's why when you check on your pet via our live webcams, you’ll see some of our veterinarian-approved safety measures in action.

Want the inside scoop? Let's look behind the scenes at some of the safety precautions we have in place for our day camp guests.

Staff Supervision

In the Pet Paradise play yards, our Playtime Coordinators are constantly on patrol, keeping an eye on our day campers (and giving belly rubs, too). That means our team can respond to any potential issues right away and make sure every pet is playing safely and getting along swimmingly.

Did you know that whenever your pet is not in their private suite, they are always accompanied by one of our pet-obsessed staff members? Sure, we might seem a bit clingy, but our veterinarians agree: expert supervision helps keep every pet safe here in Paradise.

Happy, Healthy Pets

If you take a look at the pets in our play yards, you can’t miss the sight of happy and healthy wagging tails. This is because we go the extra mile to make sure that our guests are ready for their stay and showing no signs of illness that could affect their four-legged friends at the resort. Making sure that pets are healthy enough to play is the best way to protect the pack.

How do we maintain these standards? With health inspections at check-in, vaccine requirements, medical history, and more. These tools help our team assess every guest’s overall health upon arrival.

“Our team members are trained to spot the signs of pet illness,” says Dr. Clay Hellner, Chief Medical Officer at Pet Paradise and NewDay Veterinary Care. “To help ensure pets arrive healthy and ready to play, we require the vaccines needed to prevent common illnesses.”

If a team member notices that a pet has any signs of illness at check-in or during their stay, we immediately notify pet parents and work with veterinary professionals to determine the best course of action. This helps keep the fun going while protecting the pets in our care!

Gentle Play

We’re all about making sure every guest has a paws-itively good time while encouraging their best behavior. After all, veterinarians say that playtime doesn’t need to be rough or overstimulating to be fun and enriching. Even the most energetic and athletic pups can get all the activities they need in Paradise – safely!

Dog toys can be a blast at home, but in groups like day camp, they can sometimes cause unnecessary drama. Pet behavior experts call this kind of behavior “resource guarding.”

For that reason, we skip the toys in playgroups. Instead, we focus on giving pets enrichment through exercise, socialization with other dogs, playtime with humans, and splashing in the pool. With no toys to squabble over, our guests can skip the drama and focus on having a tail-wagging time.

Whistles and Air Horns

Have you ever wondered why the Playtime Coordinators at Pet Paradise carry whistles and air horns? These accessories aren’t just for coaching sports teams. They’re our must-have noisemakers, used as distractions to quickly interrupt rough play and de-escalate doggy disagreements in day camp.

We’ve got a strict no roughhousing policy at day camp to help keep everyone safe. If play starts to escalate, our team of pet-obsessed experts is ready to intervene. We believe playtime should be gentle and balanced!

Just like humans, sometimes pets can get a bit overexcited and forget their manners. When this happens, our team is ready to interject with a quick sound blast, which safely distracts and redirects everyone’s attention. In fact, our veterinary leaders agree that distractions, as part of positive canine socialization, are a great way to de-escalate play yard spats. That way, everyone stays safe, and the fun can go on!

Cooling Stations

You might have noticed our play yards have plenty of shade structures, water misters, fans, and splash pads. It’s no coincidence that to help keep our guests nice and cool, we’ve invested in better ways to keep day camp temperatures down.

Our cooling infrastructure provides relief from the heat, which means our day camp guests can stay comfortable and hydrated while they play and socialize with their best friends. Because here in Paradise, staying cool is a must, especially during the dog days of summer.

Life Jackets

Some dogs simply aren’t natural swimmers, but that shouldn’t stop them from making a splash. At Pet Paradise, we support every pup’s doggy-paddling dreams. That’s where life jackets come in handy!

Whether it’s their age, short snout, small legs, or stout frame, certain pets have a harder time staying afloat. Brachycephalic breeds, like the French bulldog, have anatomical features that make swimming a challenge. And younger pups who are learning to swim might need an extra lift to give them a confidence boost in the water.

A life jacket keeps pups safe and makes sure that every dog can enjoy a worry-free splash in the pool. After all, we can’t all be Michael Phelps or Katie Ledecky in the water, but we think no dog should ever be left on the deck when they love to swim.

Walkie Talkies

Our Playtime Coordinators are always on the same wavelength – literally! With walkie talkies strapped to our belts, we can swap updates and communicate on the fly from anywhere in the resort. But walkie talkies aren’t just handy – they’re also an essential safety tool, allowing us to respond to potential issues quickly and seamlessly.

While your pet is having a blast, our team of experts are constantly in touch to make sure everything runs smoothly. And the best part? Using walkie talkies allows us to streamline our communication, which means we can spend more time giving dogs behind-the-ear scratches and belly rubs. And isn’t that what it’s all about?
