The youngest age Pet Paradise will accept is a 12-week-old puppy or kitten. Your pet must be up-to-date on all vaccinations and have had at least their second set of vaccinations: Rabies, DAPP (2 rounds) and Bordetella. Once a puppy reaches 6 months of age, and they are unaltered, they will only be allowed play sessions with a Pet Paradise Pack Leader or with other dogs from their family.
For the safety of your pet and other guests at Pet Paradise, we do not accept pets in heat, pets that have been coughing within the last week, pets that have open wounds or sutures, pets that are recovering from surgery, pets that have contagious diseases, pets who are people-aggressive, or pets who are heartworm positive.
Yes, Pet Paradise accepts unaltered or intact pets. All pets that are unaltered and over 6 months of age will require individual play sessions with a Pet Paradise Pack Leader or with other dogs from their family. However, Pet Paradise does not accept any pets in heat; we apologize for any inconvenience.
In many cases, a dog is deemed non-compatible when it can’t be in a shared space with other dogs due to being intact (not spayed or neutered) or because of behavioral concerns including dog-aggression, excessive dominance (mounting), or if a dog is fearful around other dogs. It could also be due to mobility or agility issues, especially in senior dogs who may need physical help or special care. An overly playful pack may not be best for them and one-on-one care may be necessary.
These behaviors and needs are determined as part of a temperament assessment our guests receive when first coming to Pet Paradise. This assessment lets our team members know what type of play and socialization are best for each guest and ensures the safety of everyone.
Pet parents who are first-timers with Pet Paradise are encouraged to bring their pup to Meet the Fam! This is a chance for your pet to experience a taste of Paradise and for us to get to know them, too — for free! As we get to know your pup, we’ll be able to tell you if they would be ready to play with others or would be non-compatible and require individual care.
As dogs age, behavior can sometimes change. Training is also beneficial to curb undesirable actions and help them feel more comfortable around other dogs. If you’ve seen a change in your dog’s behavior or have worked with a trainer to improve their social skills, you’re welcome to speak with one of our team members to inquire about having your pet’s temperament reassessed.
For the health and safety of our furry guests, dogs that are not spayed or neutered will remain non-compatible unless they get fixed. We appreciate your understanding.
The one-on-one rate is per suite/per night. Two non-compatible siblings that stay together in one overnight suite will only be charged one $20 upcharge.
Your dog will relax in a private and spacious suite, go out for playtimes, swim in the pool, or lounge on the outdoor patio. Your dog will be very active during his stay with us and it is not uncommon for pets to sleep more than normal after their vacation at Pet Paradise.

More Commonly Asked Questions:
What is CIRD?
CIRD is an infectious bronchitis of dogs characterized by a hacking cough. Most cases are mild, lasting 1-2 weeks and resolve without intervention.
What is Pet Paradise doing to help control infection spread?
Pet Paradise takes all illnesses seriously with strict routine cleaning as well as decontamination protocols in place in addition to clear guidelines to identify and respond to symptoms. We currently require all pets to stay up to date on DHPP and Bordetella vaccinations prior to their stay. In response to an increase in cases, we also recommend that the canine influenza vaccination booster series be completed a minimum of 2 weeks prior to your pet's stay. We have added this vaccine to all wellness plans for North and South Carolina and are offering this vaccine at $20 for all non-wellness plan clients.
What is the best CIRD prevention?
Vaccination and limiting exposure of high-risk dogs to social situations are the best preventative measures. While vaccines are available, they – like their human counterparts – don’t always prevent infection or transmission though they do generally reduce the severity of illness. And unlike their human counterparts, canine flu vaccines require two shots and are in limited supply.
What causes CIRD?
Pets with CIRD are contagious and the virus is spread via coughing or sneezing. Just like human colds, dogs are at higher risk of infection when visiting locations highly populated with dogs with increased potential exposure to the illness.
Who is most at risk?
Very young, elderly, immunocompromised, and brachycephalic breeds (English bulldogs, Frenchies, etc) are at a higher risk of infection. Canine flu is NOT transmissible to humans. There is no risk of infection to owners or anyone who comes in contact with an infected dog.
How does my pet get CIRD?
Dogs can become infected without their owner knowing it, and can be contagious for at least several days before showing any symptoms. Your pet can get this illness by being around other dogs that are contagious in highly populated areas. Additionally, an infected dog can spread viral particles for 2-10 days prior to becoming symptomatic.
Is CIRD like the human flu?
Like human influenza, canine influenza is a highly contagious virus that can be managed but cannot be completely prevented or eradicated. Fortunately, canine flu is also like the human flu in that, in most cases, dogs fully recover on their own without medical intervention in about 1-2 weeks, though sometimes with lingering symptoms for an additional 4-6 weeks. On a positive note: canine flu is NOT transmissible to humans. There is no risk of infection to owners or anyone who comes in contact with an infected dog.
Why isn’t Pet Paradise closing?
Temporarily closing a resort would not adequately address the principal means by which the virus is transmitted from dog to dog, and would cause significant hardship for the many people whose dogs are healthy and who depend on Pet Paradise to care for their dogs so they can work and earn a living. A multi-faceted approach is needed that combines increased cleaning, prevention, and where necessary, isolation and treatment.
At Pet Paradise, our mission is to create a safe, clean and fun environment. All suites, floors, bowls and other surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between uses. Additionally, all suites and play yards are cleaned thoroughly every morning. As a part of our cleaning procedures, we use products that contain a quaternary ammonium compound, which is used to eliminate and prevent the canine influenza virus. All Pet Paradise employees wash their hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer before or after coming in contact with any dog.
We are monitoring the Covid-19 pandemic closely and taking action to try and limit its effects on our resorts. All our locations are taking precautions including enhanced cleaning procedures, limiting the number of people inside the resorts, social distancing reminders, and more. Check out our Covid-19 response page here.
Several of our resorts are conveniently located near airports and offer 24/7 pickup and drop-off. This service requires an appointment with 48 hour notice.
